Travesty of Justice

Words by Steven Kacsmar, Music by Al Bedrosian ©2011

This song is for the people who are living on the street
Who wonder where they’ll sleep tonight and what they’re gonna eat
With all our jobs shipped overseas where the cost of life is cheap
No one can afford things except for the elite

Executives get bonuses from companies that fail
They fly around on private jets, eat caviar and quail
They’re living high on bailout funds that came from you and me
Don‘t know what else to call it but gluttony

It’s a travesty of justice
Are honesty and fairness nothing but a dream
It’s a travesty of justice
The rich keep getting richer ‘til there’s nothing left for you and me

Even when we vote for change it’s harder than it seems
Since things are really run by shadow men behind the scenes
And it’s nothing but corruption, greed, and crass hypocrisy
When corporations write the laws in Washington DC

To keep themselves in office takes ten thousand bucks a day
It’s not a mystery why our politicians are for sale
To the profiteering war machine that’s bleeding you and me
And the rich don’t have to send their kids to die to keep us free

It’s a travesty of justice
Are honesty and fairness nothing but a dream
It’s a travesty of justice
The rich keep getting richer ‘til there’s nothing left for you and me

It’s a travesty of justice
Are honesty and fairness just a broken dream
It’s a travesty of justice
When the rich keep getting richer ‘til there’s nothing left

It’s a travesty of justice
Where’d we lose our way, can someone tell me please
It’s a travesty of justice
When the rich keep getting richer ‘til there’s nothing left
